A selection of images from a two-week trip to the northern parts of Senegal in West Africa – mainly the areas around l'île de Kousmar and Kaolack, and Parc National des Oiseaux du Djoudj, close to the Mauritanian border. We also visited Parc National des Îles de la Madeleine, just off the coast of Dakar. We enjoyed hundreds of thousands of red-billed queleas, tens of thousands of African swallow-tailed kites and lesser kestrels, thousands of great white pelicans, white-faced whistling ducks and lesser flamingos, and hundreds of vultures, spoonbills, herons and pratincoles. In addition to this, we were also very happy to make the acquaintance of sought-after species such as Arabian bustard, lappet-faced vulture, black-crowned crane, red-billed tropicbird, temminck’s courser, savile’s bustard, blue-naped mousebird, cricket warbler and sennar penduline tit – to name but a few. What is more, the Senegalese people were very kind and welcoming and the food was excellent!
